THE Copperbelt University (CBU) has partnered with the Kawambwa District administration to establish a national research centre in the region.
CBU management has to this effect signed an agreement with Chief Munkanta of Kawambwa who has offered 5,000 hectares of land.
Kawambwa District Commissioner Ivo Mpasa confirmed this in an interview yesterday.
Mr Mpasa said CBU management would engage in various activities at the research centre once completed.
The centre, which will be located in an area bordering Ntumba Chushi, will seek to promote tourism for both locals and foreigners by constructing lodges in the area.
Others will be game ranching, aquaculture and forestry among many activities.
“The CBU management has partnered with the district administration to set up a research centre in the area.
“A delegation was in the district and did sign the authorisation letter with Chief Munkanta. The traditional leadership has since offered 5,000 hectares of land to CBU management,” Mr Mpasa said.
Mr Mpasa said the district would support CBU and ensure the project was implemented for the benefit of students and other future leaders.
