AISL wins swimming gala

AMERICAN International School of Lusaka (AISL) Torpedoes won the Zambia Swimming Union (ZSU) league gala after dominating both the men and women’s races ahead of Simba Seals of Ndola.
AISL scored 2,403 points followed by Simba on 1,633 points with Kapenta Swimming Club in third position on 1,350 points after the gala held at the 90 Days Legacy Swimming Pool located at the Olympic youth Development
Centre (OYDC) in Lusaka.
Trident Tigers finished on 570 points, Lusaka Dolphins 453, Lechwe 425, Baobab Barracudas 273 and Musikili Swimming club on 88 points.
AISL managed to get 1242 points in the women’s category and followed by Kapenta with 667, Simba Seals 548, Lusaka Dolphins 548, Lechwe 235 Trident 196 Baobab 68, Musikili 26 and Mufulira swimming club got 10 points.
The men’s category saw AISL score 1095 points with Simba 1065, Kapenta 651, Trident Tigers 364, Baobab 205, Lechwe 186, Lusaka sharks 71 and Musikili 62.
In the individual races, Paige Pollen from Kapenta won the 10 years girls 50m backstroke with a time of 42.34 seconds followed by team-mate Gabrielle Seno who clocked 47.72 seconds, Louise Burger from Trident clocked 47.78 and Antoinette Gandor from Kapenta clocked 50.97 seconds.
In the boys 10 years 200m breaststroke category, Joel Watt from Trident emerged winner with a time of 3:59.73 minutes and was followed by Ross Wilson of Kapenta
on 4:22.05 minutes with Edwin Miller of Musikili third with 4:27.76 minutes.
ZSU president David Thompson said the union would hold the fourth gala in three weeks in Ndola which will be used to select swimmers that would represent Zambia at the CANA champions in Mauritius.
He said weekend league gala had seen an improvement and had a total of 98 heats and breaking of 15 national records.
