Badminton body seeks funds

BADMINTON Zambia (BZ) is scouting for K100, 000 to send an eight member team to South Africa to compete at the Under-19 Africa Championships slated for April 19 to 26.
BZ general secretary Kingsley Mulenga expressed hope that the corporate world will come forward and assist raise the amount following the early announcement of the tournament and budget.
“We really want to be active by taking part in most of these tournaments, but then again finances are a big challenge and we are just hoping that the cooperate world comes to our aid,” he said.
Mulenga said that the association will also be sending another team to Mauritius next month for two tournaments and that so far nothing has been raised for the South Africa outing because they are still dealing with the Island trip.
The team has  Ndola City Council players who include Top 16 championship winner Kalombo Mulenga, his brother Chongo, Roderick Mwaba , Owen Mukuka from Mufulira and Paul Mwaba from Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC).
In the girls’ team is Mary Chikambe from Ndola City Council and Evelyn Nkwaza, and Matilda Kalandanya from OYDC.
The two teams of boys and girls will participate in men’s and women’s
singles, team’s events of mixed doubles and of men and women.
