Eagles 0 Buffaloes 1
GREEN Buffaloes yesterday started the 2016 FAZ-MTN Premier-Division season on a winning note after overcoming their fellow military side Green Eagles in this highly charged game.
Buffaloes scored their lone goal in the 70th minute through international midfielder Jack Chirwa.
The goal broke the hearts of the partisan home crowd that filled the stands to rafters as they cheered the home team on throughout the match.
The fans, however, seemed happy later on to see Buffaloes coach Bilton Musonda given marching orders on 85 minutes by Lusaka referee Stanley Hachiwa for dissent.
Buffaloes join four other sides on top of the table with three points.
Forest 0 Wanderers 0
Forest Rangers and ‘Mighty’ Mufulira Wanderers shared the spoils of their opening fixture of the 2016 FAZ-MTN Premier Division after this scoreless draw SAMUEL LUKHANDA writes from Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
This game will be best remembered for the wasteful finishing by both sets of strikers with the worst culprit being Forest Rangers’ forward Graven Chitalu who obviously left his shooting boots despite Felix Nyaenda being at the centre of everything good that came from Forest Rangers.
Wanderers, however, looked good at times and once saw a Warren Kunda header cleared off the line before Erick Chibuye decided to shoot tamely and straight at Forest goalie Jairus Mulenga who was his only obstacle.
The travelling Wanderers supporters turned up their volume to urge their team on but the chances came to Forest who saw Chitalu miss an opportunity to grab all three points in added time when his header was gathered by Wanderers goalkeeper Joshua Manyongo.
