The traditional leaders have spoken on the subject, and so have civic organisations, the media, the president of the country, the church and ordinary citizens.
So we hail Lusaka Archbishop Telesphore Mpundu once more for emphasising that politicians should use Easter as a time to restrain their youths from engaging in violence.
We totally agree with Archbishop Mpundu who has noted that politicians should take advantage of the Easter period to reconcile with each other and restrain their cadres from engaging in violence.
We feel top political leaders had the key to change the nation by taking justice to all who long for it.
We also hail Chief Chipepo of Gwembe District in Southern Province who, like Archbishop Mpundu, has challenged politicians to use the Easter period to reconcile, show love to each other and work together to emulate the leadership of Jesus Christ.
The clergyman and the traditional leader are both right when they note that political leaders have a big role to play by influencing their party members to embrace peace and unity which are important ingredients in fostering national development.
What is also heartening is that President Edgar Lungu, who has urged Patriotic Front (PF) cadres not to be vengeful but be peaceful, has continued his crusade of preaching peace in the country.
As a media, we have joined other voices in advocating for peace in this country since we understand the negative consequences of political violence.
Zambians should be made to understand that it was political violence that partially led to the signing of the Choma Declaration by Dr Kenneth Kaunda, on June 27, 1973 dissolving all opposition political parties in Zambia and ushering in the One-party State.
Now political violence is once more rearing its ugly head in the multi-party system of government, dividing Zambians along factions, tribes and parties.
We should learn from other countries where political violence has contributed to Africa being the most conflict-ridden region of the world and the only region in which the number of armed conflicts is on the increase.
Let us put our heads together and amplify issues that unite us and discourage all elements that divide us along tribes, regions and factions.
It is only when we do this that we can walk proudly in a country that should accommodate all our tribes for national unity.
We should also promote the political unitary slogan of ‘one Zambia, one nation’.
