THE Zambia Cricket Union (ZCU) has handed over sports equipment worth K55,000 to 87 schools in Lusaka and  the Copperbelt.
ZCU president Reuben Chama said in an interview that the donations were timely especially that the union wants to accelerate the development of the game at the grassroots.
Chama said it was important to impart knowledge in the youngsters at a tender age but that they needed  to have the necessary tools so that they can understand the basics of the game.
“Our core business is development which without necessary tools will be difficult to effectively run. The donation of this equipment will go a long way in developing the game as a number of indigenous Zambians will be able to play the game,” Chama said.
Chama handed over equipment to Copperbelt schools along with general secretary Martin Mutono while committee members Ng’andu Yandikani and Judith Mbulo did the honours for the Lusaka schools.
In Luanshya about 13 schools received the equipment, Mufulira had seven schools, Kitwe 10, Ndola 16 with 14 schools in Chingola benefitting while Lusaka had combined beneficiaries of 27 schools.
