UNITED States department deputy state assistant secretary for Southern African Affairs Todd Haskel has urged Zambia to conduct peaceful elections during the August 11, general election.
Mr Haskel who was in the country last week said this in a statement by the United States Embassy in Lusaka yesterday.y.
He said the U.S. government would support Zambia in maintaining its reputation for hosting peaceful and democratic elections.
“Zambia has a reputation of being a leader of peaceful democratic transitions and the US government stands ready to stand with Zambia to uphold its reputation,” Mr Haskel said.
He commended political party leaders for their recent commitment to pursue non-violent political activities.
Mr Haskel said the U.S was promoting free, fair, peaceful and transparent elections in Africa and the world.
Among other engagements he attended the launch local artist B-Flow’s new album, which was focused on the theme “Get Out and Vote” at the U.S Embassy in Lusaka.
Mr Haskel urged the 200 youth leaders in attendance to encourage their fellow youths to vote because their vote would make a difference.
