PATRIOTIC Front (PF) chairperson for elections, Jean Kapata has urged aspiring candidates to rally behind the preferred candidates once the adoption process is completed.
And Ms Kapata has refuted online media reports indicating that she and other PF senior members want to join the opposition, stating that she would “die” with the ruling party.
Ms Kapata has urged the candidates not to rush to join opposition parties out of frustration if not adopted, but support the party’s preferred candidates.
“I am appealing to you aspirants, if the party does not choose you as candidates, we don’t want to see anyone going to stand as an independent or on another party. It means you were never part of the party and you just wanted to be adopted.
“PF is not for sale to the highest bidder, we want popular candidates to be adopted,” she said.
Ms Kapata urged candidates that felt aggrieved over the adoption process to forward their grievances, but cautioned that despite the central committee having the mandate to select a candidate, the President had the power to remove and put a candidate of his choice.
Meanwhile, Ms Kapata has pledged her loyalty towards the party and disputed reports that she was joining the United Party for National Development (UPND).
“I want to dispute Zibani Zambia reports. I’m very loyal and I don’t look twice at anything, I’m satisfied and I cannot leave PF. If there will be the last person to leave PF I will be the last one, if everybody goes.
“I will remain in PF alone, but otherwise it is not true that anyone of us is going to UPND, they want to build a perception which is not there,” she said.
Ms Kapata said former vice President Guy Scott had never been part of the party’s campaigns and that he was the cause of the problems the PF had prior to the January, elections, last year.
