THE Kitwe High Court has convicted and sentenced a 25-year-old Kalulushi man to 15 years imprisonment with hard labour for defiling a six-year-old girl.
Justice Timothy Katanekwa said he was sending the convict, Charles Chushi to jail because his conduct was unacceptable.
Chushi was convicted by the Kalulushi magistrate court for an offence of defilement and committed to the High court for sentencing.
During trial, the state called witnesses who testified that they were surprised that the convict could act in such a manner.
At the close of the case, the accused was found with a case to answer and put on his defence.
Earlier, the lawyer representing the accused from the legal aid applied to the court to dismiss and set aside the conviction on the basis that records did not show the explanation of the charge.
However, the State asked the court to uphold the conviction and that it was clear that the crime had been committed.
