THE Zambia Army has commended the men and women in uniform for their exemplary behaviour during the August 2016 general elections.
Third Infantry Brigade commander Lasten Chabinga said the military personnel exhibited professional conduct before, during and after the elections.
Speaking when he graced the 2016 Kalewa Officers Annual Ball in Ndola on Friday evening, Brigadier General Chabinga urged the military personnel to remain non-partisan and continue executing their duties professionally.
Gen Chabinga also said the Zambia Army command and Government was aware of the challenges the men and women in uniform were facing like inadequate accommodation and transport.
He said the command and Government was working hard to improve the conditions for the military personnel.
Gen Chabinga, however, paid tribute to the Kalewa Garrison officers for some of their initiatives to improve the conditions of the places they were operating in and that the command had taken note of such efforts.
He challenged the men and women in uniform to strive to do more to help themselves instead of always looking up to Government for assistant.
Kalewa Garrison commander Paul Himwiinga said he was proud the military personnel including the camp hospital had continued rendering selfless service to the nation.
Lieutenant Colonel Himwiinga said the services rendered include provision of security and medical services to the surrounding community and operation areas.
He said some of the officers and soldiers had been deployed in Luapula Province on the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo to provide the necessary security to Zambians in that area.
Col Himwiinga also thanked some cooperating partners from Government and private institutions for their continued commitment in assisting the garrison in different ways.
