THE Ndola City Council (NCC) has disclosed that all houses built near the Kafubu River will be demolished for safety reasons.
Ndola Mayor Amon Chileshe said the only reason the council has not started the demolition exercise was because the land was wet and heavy machines cant go on site.
Mr Chileshe said the council is liaising with the Zambia National Service (ZNS) to use its light machine to demolish the illegal structures on the banks of the Kafubu River.
“All  houses that are 50 metres and below near to the river are going to be demolished, as council we will not allow any illegalities,” he said.
He added that the Ndola City Council will not be responsible for any loss by anyone dealing with agents that are not council officers.
“Those who want to settle in Ndola must follow the right procedure,” he said.
He further said that Ndola will be a city with laws of the land that will guide every citizen on the acquisition of property like land.
Recently, the vice president Mrs Inonge Mutukwa Wina visited the Copperbelt and gave specific instructions that illegal structures be demolished in accordance with the law.
