Zambia to become electricity trade hub

ZESCO Limited has projected Zambia to become an electricity trade hub for Southern Africa by 2025, managing director Victor Mundende has said.
Mr Mundende said the power utility firm would ensure that all customers had electricity that meets their needs.
“The successful delivery of this picture of success will not only require a re-examination of our business model, but also a new strategy,” Mr Mundende said. “We firmly believe that the reason for our existence is to serve our customers by making it easy for them to live a better life”.zesco big pic logo
He was speaking in Lusaka on Thursday when he unveiled Zesco’s new strategic road map, to redefine the firm’s operational direction.
Mundendeemphasised the need for employees at the firm to work hard in driving the organisation’s performance forward.
At the same occasion, Energy Minister David Mabumba said the country placed upon Zesco a great responsibility of steering economic growth through the provision of safe and reliable electricity services.
Hence, Mr Mabumba said the need for the power firm to redefine itself and the value placed on service delivery to customers.
“By adopting the balanced score card as your tool for strategic planning and performance measurement, I am positive that you shall be able to better define, plan for and implement your transformation to excellent service delivery,” Mr Mabumba said.
He urged public institutions to ensure that all employees are held accountable for their work in order to create value for customers and meet shareholder expectations.
