A TWENTY-NINE-YEAR-OLD former Zambia National Service (ZNS) officer has been arrested by police in Kitwe for allegedly killing a 48-year-old woman at a named lodge where the two are believed to have spent a night.
The suspect Brighten Lungu has been on the run for 18 days following the crime, which happened last month.
He was cornered in Kapisha Township in Chingola on the Copperbelt, around 16:30 hours.
The body of the deceased was found naked and covered in a white bed sheet with multiple wounds.
Copperbelt police Commissioner Charity Katanga confirmed the suspected murder case in an interview yesterday.
She named the suspect as Brighten Lungu
Ms Katanga said the incident happened around 10:00hours between July 14th and 15th.
Ms Katanga said the manager of the lodge identified as Rebecca Kunda reported the matter to the police, stating that she had found a body of an unknown female in a pool of blood.
“The manager came to report to the police that she found an unknown female body in a pool of blood and even when officers went there they found the body in the same state,” she said.
The Commissioner said police had also managed to recover a screwdriver from a Chinese Complex in Ndola, which was also used by the said suspect to kill, Bashita Mukate, a security guard, during another incident.
